St. Patrick's Day is celebrated on 17th of March. It is known as a religious feast day and the anniversary of St. Patrick’s passing away in the fifth century. The Irish have observed St. Patrick’s Day as a religious celebration for more than a thousand years now. St. Patrick's Day, falls during the Christian season of Lent, and Irish families would by tradition go to church in the morning and rejoice in the afternoon. Lenten prohibitions against the eating of meat were waived and people would dance, drink and feast. The typical meal was bacon and cabbage.

In other countries and customs, nevertheless, the political and human rights theme as elected by the United Nations runs strong, and political and social awareness of the struggles of women worldwide are brought out and examined in an optimistic approach.
